It is a postglacial channel lake that is located in the center of the lake district. The lake has numerous bays, islands and peninsulas.
The lake is by the Lötzen Canal as well as with the Kisajno, a southern bay of the Mauersee, as well as the Löwentiner Canal connected to the southern lakes and thus the other large Masurian lakes, so that there is a sailing and kayaking area hundreds of kilometers in size.
