Tourist Attractions
- Special destination in Madang - Krangket Island. In front of Madang is the beautiful Krangket Island (also Graged). Krangket has a beautiful lagoon where the locally known Krangket Island Lodge is located. The lodge is run by the Dum Klan, who own this part of the island. A walk on the rough "backside", the side of the island facing the sea, should not be missed. Water-skiing should be possible, and a short tour in a dugout canoe can be easily organized through Krangket Island Lodge. Despite the proximity to the city and relatively dense settlement, part of the original mangrove forest is still preserved. "Locals" like to go fishing there. The paths are reminiscent of a southern version of “German” neatness - they are swept regularly and you rarely see a can of Coke lying around. The people on Krangket are friendly, but of course consideration is required. Krangket can be reached by motorboat from a pier in Madang City. It is car-free and only partially electrified, even if the local Member of Parliament has promised that the whole island will be cabled soon (as of 2005).

accommodation
- Krangket Island Lodge. Tel.: 852-3302. Accessible through Madang Visitors & Cultural Bureau. The lodge is located directly on the lagoon and a bit away from the settlement. Occasionally, excursion boats and yachts dock here to relax, fish, dive or snorkel. The furnishing of the houses is simple but comfortable. It consists of a bathroom, shower, toilet, small kitchen with gas stove and refrigerator. The price is roughly on the lower level of German youth hostels - really not too much for what is on offer.
