Maipú It's in Mendoza Province. It is part of Greater Mendoza, becoming the extension of the agglomerate to the southeast of it. Next to Luján de Cuyo, forms the main winery center of the province.

The Department of Maipú was created on May 14, 1858, by Decree of the Governor Juan Cornelio Moyano, who received from the Captaincy General of Chile the Royal Mercy of the jurisdictions that the Huarpes aborigines knew with the name of Tiasta.
