By plane
The 1 Male airport(IATA: MLE) lies on the island Shell not far from Male. Many charter companies fly to the airport from Europe, with some remaining tickets being available on the open market. Regular connections are maintained by Austrian (from Vienna), SriLankan (from London-Heathrow and Frankfurt). Another alternative are the airlines Emirates and Qatar, whereby a change in Dubai or Doha is necessary. Once at the airport, you will likely get on one of the numerous water taxis. These small seaplanes connect the capital with the country's many atolls and islands.
Since 2018 the 1 China-Maldives Friendship Bridge finished, which connects the islands of Male and Huluhle and eliminates the need to use the ferry.
By boat
Other islands in the Malé Atoll can be reached by boat / ferry from the 2 Ferry Jetties on the north shore of the island. It should be noted that Dhonis at certain times or when full departure, the general price applies (“Don't pay the ferryman, until he gets you to the other side”). Happy to be in the Dhonis organizes "special trips" with a foreigner boarding an empty boat without being asked, where at the end "charter prices" are charged for a full boat 3 Vilingili Ferry Terminal also serves other routes. Right next to it is the tsunami memorial. The ferries from Sri Lanka were discontinued years ago.
mobility
On foot. There are three bus routes to public transport on the islands. Taxis run regardless of the route at a flat rate of Rs 20 (surcharge after midnight).
