- La Roche - Lying on the bay of l'Allier on the north coast, La Roche is the closest town to the airport.
- Tadine - Administrative capital, Tadine is the port on the west coast where ferries from Nouméa. Many hotels are concentrated a few kilometers south of Tadine on the beach of Yedjélé, in the bay of Wabao.

By plane
Air Calédonie flies from Magenta airport to Nouméa by sea
Twice a week a catamaran service connects the capital Noumèa with Maré. Tickets can be purchased at the Gare Maritime des Îles on avenue James Cook in Nouméa.
For a lower price, you can get on a Compagnie Maritime des Îles cargo ship.
