Marigot is a city in Dominica.

The Transinsular Road leads from Canefield Airfield over the Pont Casse roundabout through the Central Forest Reserve to the north coast and reaches the Atlantic at the Hatton Garden Estate on Pagua Bay. After another 2.5 km towards the north coast you are in the center of the fishing village of Marigot. There the French had named a bay Petite Marigot. After the English conquered the island, they renamed this bay Halifax Bay. The locals, however, preferred the name Marigot Bay, as it has been preserved to this day. To protect the harbor, a small fort was built at Mantipo Point in the 1770s. One of the first English settlers was John Weir, after whom the suburb of Weirs was named.
After Dominica was placed under the administration of the LEEWARD ISLANDS in 1832, several large plantations were created in the area. Workers have even been brought here from other English-speaking islands. The port gained in importance, the jetty and a crane are still there today. There has been a police station there since 1910, and the hospital was built ten years later. Today people try to make a living there by planting bananas. In the middle of 2004 a new fishing complex went into operation there. Marigot is now the largest town on the northeast coast.
Melville Hall Airport, one mile north of Marigot, is currently being expanded to obtain approval for international flights. An end to this construction work is not in sight due to financial and administrative problems.

The travel time from Marigot to the capital Roseau is at least 70 minutes. The drive is across the island on the Transinsular Road over the Pont Casse roundabout and Canefield.
