Marmaris is a city on the Bozburun peninsula on the Aegean coast Turkey.
background
In the 6th year v. The city was still called ancient Physkos and was one of the many Greek cities on the Mediterranean coast. In the course of the centuries the balance of power changed without the city having had any great impact on world history. When the Ottomans accepted the city into their burgeoning empire in 1425, that was to change. In 1522 Suleyman the Magnificent set out from here to take Rhodes (the fort dates from that time). And a military tradition took its course. Lord Nelson set out from here to attack the French fleet. There is now a NATO base here. But an invasion of a completely different kind shapes the life of the city. Hardly any other city in Turkey is so dedicated to tourism and attracts visitors with 300 days of sunshine a year.
