Map of Mahon

The bus system in Menorca is extensive, reliable and easy to use. The Mahon bus station is on the edge of the old town and can be easily reached on foot from the town. If you have luggage with you, you can also change to the city center buses and drive a few stops closer to the hotel. Single journey between 1.65 euros and 2.50 euros, to be paid to the driver. Trips to other places on the island cost up to 6.50 euros. There is a recreation and information center at the bus station, where all bus timetables are posted. However, overland buses to the beaches run much less frequently in the off-season (Oct-Apr), therefore it is advisable to make a note of the bus connection for the outward and return journey beforehand. The buses are modern, the next stop is indicated on electronic boards, so that even a stranger without language skills can get along well and don't miss the exit.

accommodation

If you are visiting Mahon, you need a central city hotel. Tested and approved: Hotel Eurohotel, in the street "Santa Cecilia, 41" in the upper town, ie on the cliff above the harbor, the path along the cliff is the same next door (great view). Nice, clean, quiet family-run guesthouse with friendly service and a restaurant. The rooms are simple but pleasant, the TV is only in Spanish, but there is free Wi-Fi throughout the house. There is a supermarket in the immediate vicinity, where you can stock up on provisions for day trips. It takes about 8 minutes to walk to the town center.

Practical advice

It should be noted that the siesta is still taken very seriously in Mahon. All shops and most of the cafés close between 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. and don't open again until around 5 p.m. During this time it is absolutely quiet in the city, so you should divide the day in such a way that you can also retire to the hotel for a siesta or look for a park bench with a beautiful view while reading something exciting. Tip: there is a café on the large square near the bus station that is also open for lunch!
