Paynes Prairie State Preserve
  • 1  Paynes Prairie State Preserve, US 441, Micanopy, FL 32667. Tel.: 1 352-466-3397. This 22,000 acre park is one of the most significant natural areas in the state. In 1774, the well-known natural scientist William Bartrama described in detail the various wild animals in this habitat. Most of the animals he described are still in abundance here today. Camping, fishing, hiking or horse riding are possible in the area. Canoes, sailing boats and boats with electric motors are allowed. Reservations are required for the campsites. Pets are prohibited in the park area and on the campsite. In Florida it is planned to introduce a national reservation and information system.
