Mo i Rana is a city in Norway. Mo «Polarsirkelbyen», as it is usually called, is the capital of the municipality of Rana and is located in Helgeland and thus in the Fylke North country.

background

With around 18,000 inhabitants (the municipality has a little over 25,000 inhabitants), Mo is the third largest city in Northern Norway. It is at the end of the Ranfjord, on the E6 and E12 and also on the Nordland Railway. It forms an important transport hub, which is complemented by Rossvoll Airport. It is therefore obvious that Mo has developed into the business and service center of Helgeland. The city also has the largest industrial park in Norway. The city does not live from tourism, but primarily from industry, trade and administration, as the branch of the national library is located here.

church

Not much in the city, but an ideal location for exploring.

  • 1  church, 8624 Mo i Rana. The oldest surviving structure from 1724, a wooden church with 400 seats. In the cemetery there is a memorial for the Russian prisoners of war who died in the German camp while the road across the Saltfjellet was being built. Next to it are 8 graves of an English commando group that was captured and shot in May 1940.

There are two small museums in town, that Natural history museum and the Natural history museum by Rana. This also belongs to these Stenneset open-air museum. A new building on the A6 is currently being considered, where the two museums and the tourist information office will be housed (the sticking point is the expected cost of around 100 million crowns).

  • Havnmannen. In the water in the extension of the main axis of the city stands a modern granite sculpture of the port man.

Strictly speaking, the Bimbo veikro A is already outside of Mo on the E 6 to the east (approx. 4 kilometers). This is a real rest house next to a Texaco gas station (really hearty trucker menus)

nightlife

There is a lot to offer for the size of the city. However, one should be aware that this is a small town and not a large town.

The Ramona, is a night club next to Meyergården Hotel, they think it is the biggest night club in all of Northern Norway. Whether it is so is difficult to understand, but it is big.

accommodation

The two campsites are outside on the E6.
