Mont-Joli is a city in the east of Quebec located at the entrance of the Gaspé Peninsula.

Understand

Mont-Joli is the capital of the MRC de La Mitis to the west of the tourist region of Gaspesie. Administratively, the city is part of the region of Bas-Saint-Laurent. It is the headquarters of the Association toursitique de la Gaspésie which is an excellent place to get information and obtain brochures to plan your trip to Gaspésie. Mont-Joli regional airport is the most important airport in the Gaspé.

Mont-Joli is a village-relay, that is to say that the municipality has, through its merchants, all the services normally offered by a service area located along a highway.

To go

By car

Quebec Highway 20.svg From Montreal, Quebec, Wolf River Where Rimouski, take highway 20 east. Mont-Joli is located at the end of Highway 20, however, be aware that Highway 20 is not yet complete between L'Isle-Verte and Le Bic, so you have to take Highway 132 for this section. Then, it is possible to take Highway 20 from Le Bic, thus avoiding crossing Rimouski and arriving directly at Mont-Joli or it is also possible to continue on Route 132 which is more scenic since it runs along the St. Lawrence River and passes through picturesque villages and arrive at Sainte-Flavie where a T-intersection indicates "Route 132 East" in both directions, then just turn to get to Mont-Joli. From Quebec, it is a journey of h 30 by car.

Qc132.svg From the northeast of New Brunswick or from the south of the Gaspesie, join route 132 and take it west to Mont-Joli. From'Amqui, it is a journey ofh car.

Qc132.svg From Gaspe Where Sainte-Anne-des-Monts, take route 132 west to Mont-Joli. From Gaspé, it is also possible to take route 198 westward which joins route 132 further on, thus saving a few kilometers through Murdochville. You should know that it is also possible to reach Mont-Joli from Gaspé by taking route 132 to the east and thus skirting the Baie des Chaleurs; this is the route to prefer if you complete the tour of the Gaspé and have reached Gaspé along the St. Lawrence River. From Gaspé (via routes 198 and 132 West), it is a journey of just under h by car.

By bus

Mont-Joli is served by the intercity bus network Orleans Express which circles the Gaspé and links Rimouski as well as the urban centers of Quebec. Orleans Express buses are comfortable and the schedules quite flexible.

By train

Mont-Joli is served by the passenger train service Via Rail. This links the Mont-Joli station to those of urban centers in Quebec as well as those of the Gaspé and Eastern Canada. Via Rail trains are comfortable and offer many amenities. However, like all trains in North America, they are very slow and the schedules inflexible. Unless you are going for a long trip, it is recommended that you use the bus to get around. For long journeys, the train offers the advantage of avoiding several connections as well as the option of having a bed and other services.
