Moroni is the capital of Comoros on Grande Comore.

The town center is the small old town founded by the sultans at the harbor. That is central Place Badjanani.
Ambassador is the better neighborhood.
Itsandra was the place with the sultan's castle in the 17th century. Parts of the fortification are still preserved today.

By plane
All long-distance flights to the Comoros arrive here. You can get a Visa-on-arrival for € 30 in cash at the International Terminal. Better hotels arrange airport transfers.
Prince Said Ibrahim International Airport is the largest airport in the country. Daily flights from Madagascar and Mayotte. Good connections from France because of the many guest workers. It can be cheaper to fly to Mayotte. It is cheap to fly from other European countries Ethiopian (Change in Addis Ababa, stopover in Dar-es-Salam) or via the Arab Emirates. The terminal is spartan. In the international terminal there is the non-alcoholic one (Karibu) Lounge for business class travelers.There are flights with the regional company in fan guns to the other islands from Monday to Saturday.
By boat

At 1 Iconi tourists like to show tourists the rock from which many women fell to their death in order to escape Malagasy slavers. You can also see the ruins of the sultan's palace built from lava blocks.
The nearby Marabu Lake contains salt water. You may see white herons here.

Itsandra sandy beach is at the north end of town.

The old little market (petite marché) takes place outdoors along the remains of the city wall.
Banks only open in the morning until 2 p.m. If necessary, you can also pay with small euro bills on markets because of the fixed exchange rate.

Nobody cares about garbage. Much of the stretch is covered with cans and plastic bottles. Several wrecked cars beautify roadsides.
Practical advice
