Motala is a community in Östergötland.

Motala is on the east bank of the Vättern. The community owes its existence to the Göta Canal. Vättern Bay was chosen to be the administrative center there, something that can still be seen today in the arched streets that are laid out as an extension of the shoreline.

By plane

Motala does not have its own airport. Nearby is the city of Linköping with the Linkoping City Airport, a regional airport. For international connections one would have to fall back on the Stockholm airports.

By train

The Mjölby - Hallsberg railway line passes Motala. The train station is on Platensgatan.

In the street

Motala is close to the E4 European route.

From the south

The E4 to Ödeshög and then continue on trunk road 50 towards Örebro.

From the north

From trunk road 50 from the direction of Jönköping to Motala.

From the east

From the west, leave the E4 and take the trunk road 36 to Motala.

By boat

Motala is located on Lake Vättern, which is connected to the Göta Canal. There are 60 guest berths in the port of Motala.
