Møns Klint and Klintholm - Møns Klint und Klintholm

Møns Klint and Klintholm is a region on the island of Møn in Denmark. The imposing chalk cliffs can be found on the island of Møn far in front of the Baltic Sea.

Man is small considering the cliffs.

background

The eastern tip of the island of Møn (Klintholm) rises up to 143 m from the sea in a wooded hill country. On the east coast, the island drops steeply into the sea in the famous Møns Klint. The heights of the hill country (Høge Møn) are covered with a beech forest (Store Klinteskov). Parts of the forest (especially the coastal area) are under nature protection.

Politically, the entire island of Møn is part of the municipality of Vordingborg (as a kind of urban district with 46,000 inhabitants, see also Wikipedia article Vordingborg Municipality). This is not really relevant for the traveler.

places

This article covers the eastern tip of the island of Møns including the town of Borre eastwards. The following locations are included in this article:

  • Borre - Central place with supermarket and gas station in the interior of the island on the main road to Bridges.
  • Klintholm Havn - Klintholm Havn is a small port town with around 200 inhabitants on the south coast. For boat travelers, the closest port to the chalk cliffs of Møns Klint.

By plane

The nearest international airport is about 135 kilometers away by road Copenhagen AirportCopenhagen Airport in a different language in the Wikivoyage travel guideCopenhagen Airport in the Wikipedia encyclopediaCopenhagen Airport in the media directory Wikimedia CommonsCopenhagen Airport (Q206277) in the Wikidata database(IATA: CPH). From there it takes more than three hours by bus and train to Klintholm Havn (three changes: in Copenhagen Hbf, Vordingborg and Stege - see the section below for details).

By bus and train

The train journey from Germany usually takes place via the Vogelfluglinie via Puttgarden. The Eurocity Hamburg - Copenhagen (diesel multiple unit of the Danish State Railways) stops in Vordingborg. The train is loaded onto the ferry (entry into the ship sitting in the train). During the crossing, the train, like the entire car deck, must be left for safety reasons. The large luggage can remain on the train. This is locked during the crossing. On the train in October 2018 on the Danish side, border control (extra stop at Rødby station).

From the bus stop right in front of the Vordingborg railway station (Elevator on the long-distance railway dough available) Take line 660 to Stege. Here change to line 667 to Klintholm Havn (sometimes without changing, the vehicle then simply changes the number in Stege and continues after a short stop). Good to know: if you show your train ticket on the bus in Vordingborg, you will receive a discount on the bus fare. It is possible to buy tickets at least up to Klintholm Havn to buy. Travel time from Vordingborg train station to Klintholm Havn: around one and a half to 2 hours (depending on the connection time in Stege). On the way you can get to know rural Denmark nicely. Timetables: www.rejseplanen.dk

During the high season (May to September) there is a connection to the 678 line in Klintholm Havn. This connects the Geocenter and Lieselund Castle from here.

Food tip for travelers with self-catering accommodation. If you have around 30 minutes of connection time at the bus stop in Stege, for example, it makes sense to go shopping in the Netto supermarket in the evening (open daily 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.) The Møn Tourist Information is also only about 50 m away from the bus stop (in the building between the bridge and the traffic lights, open according to the Openstreetmap Mon-Sat 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.).
