Wild accommodation - Noclegi na dziko

Wild accommodation - the cheapest form of accommodation (free), consisting in setting up a tent outside the campsite.

Preparation

  • Map,
  • Tent (preferably in a camouflage color),
  • Self-defense measures, e.g. pepper spray (optional)

Where to sleep

For safety reasons, it is best to find a place sheltered from prying eyes, which is unlikely to be visited by tourists, especially hooligans and drunkards, away from the main road (an example is the vineyards in Tokaj, 1 km from the route). On the other hand, the place to stay should not be very far from the route so that you can call for help if necessary. It is not recommended to pitch a tent in typical tourist places (e.g. at Lake Balaton or on the Croatian coast).

Security

Wild accommodations are not a very safe type of sleeping, but they are undoubtedly free and sometimes with interesting views. Couchsurfing is a slightly safer alternative.

Legal aspect

In many countries (incl Hungaryor in Croatia) sleeping in the wild is not allowed and punishable by a fine (pay attention to hiding the tent, especially on the coast and beaches). In some countries, however (e.g. in Norway or in Romania) you can stay overnight this way as it is allowed.
