The parts North and West of Singapore is the city-state's “hinterland” and overlooks Bishan, Ang Mo Kio, Khatib, Yishun, Sembawang and Woodlands and the mountainous jungle areas of Buona Vista, Commonwealth, Ayer Rajah, NUS and Telok Blangah . Jurong forms part of the hinterland of Singapore. These are public housing blocks in the jungle. There is also a large industrial area around the Tuas area. In addition, it includes an island reclaimed from the sea, soberly called Jurong Island, and made up of 7 smaller islands that have been artificially merged.

The North-South line reaches Marsiling from Toa Payoh via Braddell, Bishan, Ang Mo Kio, Yio Chu Kang, Khatib, Yishun, Sembawang, Admiralty and Woodlands. The East-West line serves the entire area from Outram Park, via Tiong Bahru, Redhill, Queenstown, Commonwealth, Buona Vista, Dover and Clementi, and emerges in Jurong district. The Circular Line connects the areas of Telok Blangah, Labrador, West Coast, Ayer Rajah and Holland Village.

The hinterland attractions can easily be divided into two groups: on one side you have the zoo and bird park, on the other you have everything else.
The Zoo, Night Safari and ornithological park
These three major attractions in the sector offer “passes” valid for one month and allowing you to visit two of the three attractions for a price of. 49 $, or the 3 for 69 $ (price 2013). You can also see the giant pandas for 5 $ additional.

To avoid walking under the tropical sun, you can board a small train that strolls through the park (plan an extra 5 $/3 $). It is in any case preferable to make your visit early. Remember to bring swimsuits for the children, so they can cool off in the "Kidz Zone". In the morning you can take part in the Jungle Breakfast (25 $/16 $ supplement), every day at 9 h. A buffet that you share with all kinds of critters, from orangutans to sea lions, and where you can even try to feed the elephants. This attraction being very popular, remember to book. Specialized in the birds of South-East Asia and in the species with the most exotic and colorful plumages. No less than 8000 birds belonging to more than 600 species from all over the world are gathered there. The layout is well thought out and even a fanatic would find what they are looking for. The monorail tour allows you to enjoy the complex without getting tired.
The gardens
- 5 Chinese garden and Japanese garden (near Lakeside MRT station) 4,5 $. – Open for walking, perfect for a picnic, don't forget to visit the turtle sanctuary in the Chinese garden (5 $ per adult). During the Lantern Festival, (usually in September-October), the garden is adorned with tens of thousands of lanterns, and the like - as has been said - Chinese shadows, since Hello Kitty up to mythological figures, during this festivity, the price climbs to 13 /9 $.

- Singapore Tchoukball West Coast Park / NUS MPSH – Recently, it has been possible to organize tchoukball games at West Coast Park. Companies often use it to strengthen ties between employees, tchoukball is a team sport that builds character, teaches discipline while being particularly fun and recreational. You can rent equipment by the hour and be mentored free of charge by professional trainers.
