Characteristic

Geography

New South Wales is divided into four main geographic and climatic regions, spread longitudinally. The majority of the population is concentrated on the coast, with a climate ranging from temperate maritime on the Victoria border to subtropical on the Queensland border. Further to the west is the area of the Great Wododziałowe Mountains and their foothills. The highest parts of this range (the so-called Australian Alps) are the only place in Australia with periodic snow cover. Another region is less populated agricultural areas with a slightly more continental climate (e.g. around the city Wagga Wagg). The farthest to the west are semi-arid and desert wastelands, where mining is concentrated (its most important center is Broken Hill).

Climate

As in all of Australia, the warmest months of the year are January and February, and the coldest are June and July. In Sydney, the average January temperature varies between 18 and 26 degrees Celsius, while for July it ranges from 8 to 16 degrees.
