Climate

The terrain, afforestation and variability of the exposure of the slopes have a great influence on the shaping of the climate. All these factors create a microclimate specific to the region, which distinguishes the park from the surrounding area. The climate of the OPN is therefore mountainous, due to, among others, temperature fluctuations, changes in insolation or the phenomenon of inversion (temperature change with altitude). In the Ojców area, autumn and spring greyhounds last very shortly, only 55 days a year (for comparison, in the Carpathians it is 67 days, at the Baltic Sea as many as 87). An example of the influence of inversion is the average temperature, which is 7.5 ° C on the plateau, 6.6 ° C on the northern slopes, and 6.2 ° C on the valley floor. In summer, the average daily temperature is 15 degrees Celsius. Depending on the year, rainfall ranges from 775 to 830 mm per year.

History

Efforts to protect the nature of the Prądnik Valley were carried out before the Second World War. The project to create a nature reserve in the Prądnik and Sąspowska Valley was created under the supervision of prof. Władysław Szafer in 1924. Despite efforts to create a reserve before World War II, however, it did not take place, and these plans began to be implemented only in 1953. Pursuant to the Regulation of the Council of Ministers of January 14, 1956, Ojców National Park was established as the sixth in Poland. In 1981, a protection zone was established around the OPN, created by the Complex of Jurassic Landscape Parks.
