Oracabessa - Boscobel is a city in Jamaica.

background

The name too Oracabessa has a Spanish origin. He sits out oro = Gold and cabeza = Head together. This small port town was the winter resort of the former English secret service officer and later writer Ian Flemming, the author of the James Bond novels. The English author Sir Noel Coward also had a house there.

Since 1970 the place has had an artificial port from which bananas should be shipped all over the world. The banana boom declined during the construction period, so the port was never used for it. There are now plans for cruise tourism, but only plans.

Ian Fleming

The English writer Ian Fleming, who worked for the British secret service during World War II and was familiar with both Jamaica and the Bahamas, was looking for a new home, far from England. He had his friend Ivar Bryce search for a plot of land. On the north coast of Jamaica he was offered 5½ hectares near Oracabessa, which he bought for £ 2,000 and had a simple house built on it according to his own wishes, with no glass in the windows and no hot water. He named the property Goldeneye. (This was the code name for war operations in the Spanish area for the Naval Intelligence Division). At least three out of 13 James Bond novels have a Jamaican background: Dr. No, live and let die, the man with the golden gun. All 13 books were written on this island. He also enjoyed playing golf, smoking and drinking too much. The film boom began in the late 1960s with the James Bond films, some of which were also shot in Jamaica. Leading actor James Bond’s name was borrowed from ornithologist James Bond, who wrote the book "The Birds of West India".

His mother died in England in the summer of 1964. Fleming traveled to the funeral against his doctors' wishes. He died on August 12, 1964 in Sevenhampton, England, after a heart attack. His Jamaican property was bought by the Englishman Chris Blackwell (Island Records record label) and converted into a small but expensive hotel.
