Orense is a city of Galicia, in the North-West ofSpain.
Understand
Third most populous city in the region with nearly 110,000 inhabitants, it retains a historic center organized around the alleys surrounding the Praza Maior, the city's nerve center with its arcaded shops and the town hall. Not far away, the Cathedral of Saint Martin, which combines Romanesque and Gothic styles, is the oldest in Galicia.
Ourense is located a short distance from the border of Portugal.
Ourense is on the Via de la Plata (or ruta da Prata, silver road), a road to Compostela coming from Seville in Andalusia and along theExtremadura and the west of Castile and Leon.
