Otacílio Costa is a small town in the Santa Catarina mountain range. It has approximately 17 thousand inhabitants and its largest extension is in rural areas. Its economy revolves around large companies that were installed in the region. Its climate is quite cold in winter, with frequent frosts. Otacilio Costa was elevated to the category of municipality on March 21, 1982, when he emancipated himself from Lages. The lands belonged to the politician Otacilio Vieira da Costa, which is the origin of the name of the municipality.
