Panguitch is a city in Garfield County in Utah.
background
Panguitch is not far from Bryce Canyon National Park and offers several hotels. The first Mormon settlers came to Panguitch in 1864. The place name means "big fish" in the Paiute language. In the first year after settlement, the harvest in the fields froze to death before it was ripe because of the altitude. The settlers had nothing to eat for the winter. A group of 7 men volunteered to go through the deep snow over the mountains to an already established village to get food. As they sank more and more into the snow, they use quilts as a base. They were slowly but surely coming back with food. Since then, the Quilt Festival has been celebrated every spring.

- Cowboy Smokehouse, 95 N Main Street. Serves, among other things, a cowboy-style fried biscuit, smoked over mesqzuito wood and then grilled. The taste takes getting used to, but good!
