The place Panteleimonas was destroyed by an earthquake at the end of the 19th century. The residents left the place and founded the new village Neos Panteilemonas at the foot of the mountain. Not so long ago, however, the original place was settled again by the inhabitants. Care was taken that the place was restored to the way it originally looked. This recovery is not quite complete yet. Some houses are still destroyed. The place is in the area of ​​the national park Olympus.

The place is not particularly big. There is a parking lot at the entrance to the village. From here you can and must do everything on foot. It is quite steep down the mountain to the town center, but that should be feasible for everyone. But you should wear sturdy shoes.

The place is the sight. The streets and the houses have been restored in the ancient Greek style and you feel transported back in time. As I said, there are still a few destroyed houses. In the center of the village everything has already been restored as it should be. The streets are paved with natural stone, the houses are typically restored.

In the center there is also a restored church that can be visited. It is beautiful inside and out.

One should explore the whole place with a walk. There is also a lot to see in the small alleys. And you should take your time, because you can really breathe Greek air here.

shop

There are a few shops in the town center where you can get souvenirs. Of course there is also the typical Greek monotony, but also a few special features that can only be found here. You can take your time browsing, the owners are not pushy, but very nice and helpful.

Here you can also get the double-distilled ouzo, which boasts 70 percent alcohol. This Tsipouro has a strong effect, so it is enjoyed with water and ice or diluted with a dash of cola.

There are a few tavernas in the center of the village that offer typical Greek cuisine. Everything is prepared quickly and freshly. But they have also specialized a little in the numerous coaches that come through here every day. Many trips also have the food in the program. Nevertheless, you can eat well and cheaply here.

You can sit in the tavern in the evening and enjoy the evening. However, there is not much going on. But maybe once a welcome change from the hustle and bustle that the Greek vacation spots offer.

Panteilemonas has a few rooms to offer as well. They are kept in the style of the whole place and furnished in a rustic style. Since there are only a few rooms, you should inquire beforehand whether there are still spaces or book everything before your arrival.

Practical advice

You can't get lost in Panteleimonas, the place is just too small for that. When you go back up the mountain, you come to the parking lot, that is a rule of thumb. Everything that is important is in the center of the village, and that is around the church, so that too is easy to find.
