Parana is the capital of the Province of Entre Ríos in Argentina.

Context

The place name of the city comes from the Paraná river on whose shore it is located.

The city arose in the 16th century when residents of Santa Fe settled on the other bank of the Paraná River. The population of the place developed slowly, acquiring a certain increase, both in the riverside area near the old wharf, and in the fields that stretched along the Paraná River, without the usual ceremonies being carried out when a Hispanic city was founded; there was no previous election of the land, it lacked the roll of justice and the founding act; but the conditions were favorable for the settlement; There were abundant bighorn cattle, the soil was fertile, there was no shortage of water or firewood, and for the moment a relative peace was maintained with the native peoples. The first settlers called the place Baxada del Paraná.
