Understand

San Juan de Pasto is a city in which diverse cultures are mixed, the predominant one is undoubtedly the Andean culture, an unequivocal example of this is the Carnival of Blacks and Whites, in which the pastuso expresses to the maximum the richness of its features most peculiar. The city is located in the Valle de Atriz at the foot of the imposing Galeras Volcano, which can be seen from any side of the city.

Pasto is a very religious city, where it is not strange to find several churches just a few steps away. Some of these are hundreds of years old and have been mixed with the modern and at the same time colonial landscape that has remained.

In Pasto you can find some artisan workshops, which produce various pieces made by hand (handicrafts). The most important for the excellence in its finishes, which give it a slight appearance of Chinese lacquer, is the Varnish of Pasto. This is very popular with tourists. However, other types of crafts are also made such as ceramic fabrics, leather and wood products and chaff that represent in the same way its cultural and historical legacy.
