Ducks - Patos

Location of the municipality in the state of Paraíba

Ducks is a city of Paraíba, 300 km from the state capital. It has more than 100,000 inhabitants, and around 230 thousand in its metropolitan area.

Understand

The city is known as "The abode of the sun", due to the warm climate all year round. It holds several festivals a year that bring together crowds, among the main "the São João de Patos" in June, as well as religious tourism, which peaks in October with the Guia's party.

To arrive

By airplane

Transamazon Highway, the main access to the city.

There is an airport in the city where a passenger terminal is being built, but there are no scheduled flights yet.

The closest airports in operation are the Presidente Vargas Airport, in Campo Grande, 150 km away, the João Pessoa/Bayeux International Airport, in the capital and the Cariri Regional Airport, in Juazeiro do Norte, In Ceara.

By train/train

The passenger train line that connected from the capital of the state, passing through the city and going to the Ceará was suppressed and is currently used only for the transport of cargo.

By bus/bus

From João Pessoa, bus trips start at the Varadouro Bus Terminal, in a journey of approximately five hours. (BRL 57.20)

In Campina Grande, the city terminal also has a direct bus to Patos. (BRL 34.55)

Two companies make the route, departures occur almost all the time.

  • Guanaraba Express, (83) 3421-2276.
  • Progresso Road, (83) 3421-2218.

By car

The options to get to the city by car are:

  • Leaving from João Pessoa (or Campina Grande), heading west on the Transamazon Highway BR-230, passing through Campina Grande, Soledade, Juazeirinho and from there through two options:
    • Take BR-230 and pass through Junco do Seridó, Santa Luzia and São Mamede; or
    • Take the PB-228 and pass through Assunção, Salgadinho and Areia de Baraúnas.

Coming from the north of Pernambuco, the route can be done by taking the BR-110 at the height of the city of Teixeira and then also passing through São José do Bonfim. Coming from Rio Grande do Norte the access is made by BR-101 at the height of Serra Negra do Norte and then by BR-230, heading east; or it could be getting to the city also taking the PB-233 or PB-251, both also having to take the BR-230.

From the west, access can be made via the BR-230 for those coming in the direction of Sousa-Patos, or via BR-361 for those arriving in the city from the Piancó River Valley region.

All roads are in excellent condition and have no toll.

circle

The city's urban transport system is managed by the Patos Transit and Transport Superintendence – STTRAN.

It's good to pay attention, the public bus transport system, although cheap (R$1.00) does not cover the entire city, it doesn't even reach the Santa Gertrudes district, so the most convenient thing is to take a taxi (by arrangement) or a motorcycle taxi (R$3.00).
