Among the pilgrims was the Indian emperor Asoka who had one of his commemorative pillars built there. 2 Kathmandu Valley Cultural(iii), (iv), (vi)The cultural heritage of the Kathmandu Valley is illustrated by seven sets of monuments and buildings, covering the full spectrum of historical and artistic achievements that have made the Kathmandu Valley world famous. 3 Royal Chitwan National Park Natural(vii), (ix), (x)At the foot of the Himalayas, Chitwan is one of the rare undisturbed remains of the “Terai” region which extended over the foothills of India and Nepal. 4 Sagarmatha National Park Natural(vii)In a landscape of grandiose mountains where the highest peak in the world, Everest, rises (8 848 m), glaciers and deep valleys, the park is home to rare species, such as the snow leopard and the lesser panda.
