The small town Pella lies in the greek region Macedonia. It is the birthplace of Alexander the Great.

Pella had its heyday in ancient times when it was the capital of Macedonia. At that time the most important kings of the country ruled, Philip II and after him his son Alexander the Great. 168 BC Pella was conquered by the Romans, a few years later an earthquake destroyed the city. In the Middle Ages the city was named after the holy apostles Agii Apostoli named. Since 1926 the place has been called Pella again, and this emblematic name also carries the political region.

Not too much has been excavated from the ancient Pella, but the structure of the 4th and 5th centuries BC is well known. systematically laid out city. The blocks were 125 m long and 45 m wide, and in the center of the city the agora stretched over 10 blocks. Parts of the city wall are known and probably also the palace in which Alexander the Great was born and taught by Aristotle.

During the excavations, floor mosaics came to light, some of which were only laid out with pebbles. Some of these mosaics are still in place, only protected from storms by a light roof. The excavations are still in progress.
