Picton is a city in the region Marlborough, South island of New Zealand.
background
Picton is in Queen Charlotte Sound, a branch of the Marlborough Sounds. The most famous part of the town is its port, where the ferries coming from the North Island dock.
getting there
By plane

By train
Picton is the northern terminus of the railway line Tranzcoastalthat once a day from south of Christchurch arrives here.
By bus
In the street
There is only one road to Picton, that's the one (SH 1) coming from direction Blenheim or from direction Nelson All rental car stations such as Avis, Hertz, Europcar or Thrifty are right at the ferry terminal. They are open at the times of departure and arrival of the ferries.
By boat

The companies' ferries Interislander and Bluebridge transport their passengers from Wellington according to Picton. A long bay leads from Queen Charlotte Sound into the harbor. The ferries as well as smaller cruise ships can be found at the 2 Waitohi Wharf put on, larger ones drive into the 3 Shakespeare Bay and bring their passengers ashore in tender boats.
