background
Privately owned, this 325 hectare and just 3.3 km long island between Providenciales and North Caicos is a privately owned property. The first tourist development of the archipelago was planned there as early as the 1950s. But it was not until 1973 that the Meridian Club Hotel planned by Count Ferdinand Czernin was built. Of the 30 or so villas on the island, around 20 are inhabited during the season, and very few are rented out. The philosophy of the owners is: total privacy. There are no roads, no cars, no television, radio or telephone, there is only a fax connection to the outside world in case of an emergency. Means of transport are bicycles and golf carts. There are 14 km of hiking trails on the island, where a large number of tropical birds can be observed, of which around 120 different species have been counted.
