Platamon is a city in Pieria. It is at the foot of the hill on which the Platamon Castle lies.

Platamon isn't big enough to get lost. Everything can be done quite comfortably on foot. Going to the castle is quite strenuous, but manageable, even if the stone paths to get there are sometimes very smooth.

The most important sight is certainly the castle in the north of the city on a hill. It is very well preserved and you get plenty of information material and guided tours. Platamon has a small port that is very nicely located. Here you can go for a nice walk. In addition, the beach is definitely worth seeing. There is a boardwalk.

Numerous water sports are offered. But be careful. In the pre- and post-season, the program quickly subsides. Here you should inform yourself in advance from the local providers. The water sports are not organized by the hotels, but by third-party providers.

The kitchen is also very much oriented towards tourists. There are many fast food providers, but many of them offer Greek dishes. But it's more the cuisine that you know from Greek restaurants in Germany. Gyros and Souflaki are popular. There is also pizza and pasta, all at moderate prices. If you want to have a nice Greek meal, you have to go into the hinterland.
nightlife
As everywhere on the Olympic Riviera, the nightlife is quite calm. You can go out in the evening, but if you are looking for wild parties and discos that are open until the morning, you are at the wrong place here. It's rather cozy. At the harbor you can sit and chat very nicely in the taverns. There is also Greek red wine and something to eat.

There are a number of hotels in Platamon. Some can also be booked from Germany, in others you can find a room here quickly if you are just passing through. The possibilities are from very simple to the upper middle class.
Work
Since there is a very high unemployment rate in the area, it is difficult to find work here. Good foreign language skills (Russian, English, French, German) promise better opportunities. The working conditions are very bad due to the crisis in Greece. Everything is saved. And you only get work in the season, i.e. from April, if you are unlucky only from May to the beginning of October at the latest.

Greece is generally considered to be a safe place. This is particularly the case in the seaside resorts on the Olympic Riviera. Lots of families and older couples come here. Because there is no big party, there is no imported crime. You just have to follow the general principles. You shouldn't induce anyone to commit a crime.
It has to be said that the police in Pieria are still in deep sleep. You don't have to imagine it like in Germany, that's something else. If you are really caught, you have to expect drastic fines. The Greeks are not as thrifty here as the Germans. But the chances of getting caught are very slim.
health
There are resident doctors and pharmacies in Platamon. If you get more seriously ill, you should rather look into it Katerini, Larisa, Thessaloniki or even better after Athens go. You are better off here.
Practical advice
As in all of Greece, the post office works without any problems. Postcards are at their destination within a few days. Cell phone reception in the known networks is not a problem. But there are also public telephones that can be activated with coins.
trips
There are numerous beautiful mountain villages nearby. Here you can get to know the real Greek culture. Of course you have to visit the castle. Also a trip to Thessaloniki is nice and should be on the note. A little further away are the floating monasteries of Meteora, they are also very worth seeing.
The local organizers as well as the German organizers offer bus excursions almost every day. The local providers are often cheaper, but the tours are often multilingual and that can be quite annoying in the long run.
