The central platters from Kazakhstan are an immense and sparsely populated region, larger than the Pakistan, consisting of the endless steppes of Aktobe and Karagandy provinces, as well as the western half of East Kazakhstan province (Semipalatinsk oblast).

Cities
- 1 Aktobe – Large steppe city, which is rapidly developing as the center of the oil industry in northwestern Kazakhstan.
- 2 Kandyagach – Small town at the railway junction, south ofAktobe.
- 3 Aïagouz – A small town and major stop on the Turkestan-Siberia Railway.
- 4 Balkhash – Small town located on Lake Balkhash halfway between Astana and Almaty by bus.
- 5 Karaganda – A large Soviet mining town.
- 6 Semey – A Soviet-era atomic city, with the radiation levels to prove it. Fyodor Dostoyevsky resided there after his release from Omsk prison.

- 8 Jezkazgan – A medium-sized mining town in western Karagandy province, roughly in the center of the country.
