Pointe-Noire (creole: Pwentnwa) is a parish in Guadeloupe.
background
This village was founded in 1715 and is 42 km from Pointe-à-Pitre. It got its name from the black volcanic rock from the area. There is a soldier monument in the village and a colorful statue of the Virgin Mary in front of the town hall. The two streets, Rue de la Republique and Rue Saint-Jean, are the main shopping streets. The Rue de la Republique is the second parallel street to the sea and runs as a one-way street from north to south.
In the far south, directly north of the junction to Route de la Traversée, which leads across the island, is the district of Mahaut.
Halfway between Mahaut and the Bourg, the D 16 turns right uphill to Section Acomat. In the area there are the ruins of a fortification and the waterfall of the same name.
Shortly before the Bourg von Pointe-Noire, the D17 road leads as a dead end up the mountain to the Les Plaines section.
The small fishing port is located 3 km north in the district of Baillargent.
getting there
In the street
Pointe-Noire is on National Road 2. However, if you want to get to Pointe-Noire from the eastern part of the island of Basse-Terre or from Grande-Terre, it is advisable not to take the national road through the north of Basse-Terre , but the Route de la Traversée. This route is shorter, faster (because of the traffic jams on the N2) and more scenic because it leads across the island through the national park.
mobility
Gas station
The petrol station is located at the southern entrance to the village, Section Bellevue, next to the girls' school.
