The Pointe you Raz is a "Grand site de France" in France in the department Finistère.

background

The Pointe you Raz is a 70 m high headland that forms the westernmost point of mainland France.

history

As early as the 19th century, the Cape was a destination for wealthy tourists - attracted by writers like Victor Hugo and Gustave Flaubert. The first hotels appeared at the beginning of the 20th century. Over 1 million tourists now visit the scene every year, which is why it makes sense not to visit during the main travel season during the French summer holidays. The cape has been a nature reserve since 1996 and the streams of visitors are directed in such a way that the grandiose landscape is permanently preserved.

landscape

Pointe you Raz

The Pointe you Raz forms the western end of the Cap Sizun. The 70 m high, rugged cliff braces itself against the continually searing Atlantic. The cape is part of an earlier land connection to the Île de Sein. The nearby lighthouse on the offshore small island Ilot de la Vieille defying the surf, two more lighthouses Tourelle de la Plate and Phare de Tévennec complete the drama.

Flora and fauna

The constant whipping wind (don't forget to wear appropriate clothing) only gives a comparatively few plants a chance, such as grasses or heather. Black-headed gulls are one of the seabird species that live here.
