Port Elizabeth is a city on the island Bequia.
background
The main town and port is Port Elizabeth on the large Admiralty Bay. The bay also offers two beaches, Princess Margaret Beach and Lower Bay Beach. On the north side of the bay are the remains of the Hamilton Battery from the late 18th century. It was built to protect the harbor and today offers the visitor a beautiful panoramic view. In the opposite direction is the St. Mary’s Anglican Church. A previous church, which was located in the same place, was destroyed by a hurricane in 1798. The current church was completed in 1829. The ballast stones of the sailing ships as well as local limestone were used as building material.
The main street (Main Street) runs parallel to the waterfront and is at the same time the main shopping street and promenade with countless bars and restaurants, later it turns into the Belmont Walkway.
On Main Street, behind the post office and the police station, you will also find the market on the waterfront, offering both fresh fish and agricultural products.
