Bochnia poviat - poviat in Poland in in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship), created as part of the administrative reform in 1999. Its capital is the city Bochnia.

The area of ​​649.28 km² is inhabited by 105 577 people, so the population density is 162.8 people / km², in cities there are 32 275 inhabitants, i.e. urbanization is 32.24%.

The Bochnia County is located in the central part of the Lesser Poland Province. The Bochnia Land is a region with a very diverse landscape, full of picturesque landscapes, and unique natural monuments such as the "Stone Mushroom" Reserve in the Lipnica Murowana commune, medieval markets, interesting monuments of sacred architecture with the most important basilica of St. Nicholas in Bochnia or the Bochnia Salt Mine entered on the UNESCO list, make it one of the most interesting places for tourists in the entire province and even the country.


The World Heritage List is a list of objects due to their unique cultural or natural value for humanity, which are under special protection of the international organization UNESCO - a branch of the United Nations. In the Bochnia poviat, there are two objects included in the list, i.e. the Church of St. Leonard in Lipnica Murowana and the salt mine in Bochnia. The most valuable monument of the county is the oldest salt mine in Europe. The Bochnia Salt Mine Health Resort, created on its basis, with a specific microclimate, well-prepared tourist routes and accommodation facilities, encourages people with asthmatic ailments to take advantage of the underground values ​​in a special way. In the mine, as an additional curiosity, there is a steam engine in the Campi Shaft - an exceptionally valuable technical monument, the longest working steam engine (until 1996) in mines in Poland, made in 1909 at the "Laura" steelworks in Chorzów. After it was replaced by an electrically powered device, it remained in its current place as a fascinating technical monument, open to tourists.

An important and valuable heritage of the Bochnia poviat are beautiful wooden churches and other wooden buildings belonging to the most valuable monuments of folk material culture, which are located on the Wooden Architecture Trail of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship. In addition to the church of St. Leonard in Lipnica Dolna, in the district there are 9 other wooden churches in Krzyżanowice, Separ, Sobolów, Chronów, Pogwizdowo, Brzeźnica, Rajbrota, Gawłów and Łapanów; the oldest one was built in the 16th and 17th centuries. The trail also includes the Koryznówka manor house, the belfry in Bochnia, the granary in Rajbrot and the wooden buildings of Lipnica Murowana.

The varied terrain also allows you to practice winter sports in the Laskowa-Kamionna ski station, located about 30 kilometers from Bochnia.
