Kalisz poviat is one of 35 counties Greater Poland Voivodeship. Situated in the south-eastern part of the voivodeship, it lies in the sphere of influence of three large urban centers: Poznan, Lodz and Wroclawwith which it has good transport, rail and bus connections.
The Kalisz poviat consists of 10 agricultural communes and the town and commune of Stawiszyn. City Kalisz is a separate township poviat and is not part of the Kalisz poviat.
Characteristic
Approximately 70% of the poviat's area is arable land. There are also over 23,000 hectares of various types of forests and the largest artificial water reservoir in Southern Greater Poland, located on the estuary section of the river Nettle.
Geography
The area of the poviat is situated in the south-eastern part The Greater Poland Lowlands. A river flows along the poviat In pig with tributaries of the rivers: Swędrnia, Pokrzywnica, Ciemna and Giszka. The other less significant rivers are: Żabianka, Czarna Struga, Żurawka and Łużyca.
