Worth seeing

The oldest preserved monuments in the poviat belong to the sacred architecture.

  • The gothic church of Our Lady of the Rosary in Strzelce Krajeńskie is undoubtedly one of the most valuable monuments.
  • One of the oldest churches is also the church of Christ the King in Dobiegniew. Its birth certificate dates back to the 14th century, when the city developed significantly. Despite multiple fires haunting the city, the church has survived to the present day.
  • An interesting temple with preserved Gothic features is the village church in Lubicz. The church has a defensive character, loopholes in the tower have been preserved.
  • Another interesting monument is the church in Ogardy, where you can find the remains of an early Gothic building - fragments of walls made of granite blocks or a stone entrance portal made of stone in the northern elevation.
  • The church in Brzoza is also interesting, built of stone blocks, it still remembers the early Gothic times. The church was rebuilt in 1751, today it is an Orthodox church.
  • Churches in Chomętowo, Trzebicz, Gościm and Zwierzyno are interesting buildings of this period.

The cities are interesting:

  • Strzelce Krajeńskie

They were mentioned in 1286. In the second half of the 13th century, the city adopted Magdeburg rights. Until today, in the contemporary layout of the city, a medieval layout has been preserved, with a regular checkerboard shape, with a centrally located rectangular market square. The whole creates a characteristic and interesting spatial arrangement in the shape of a circle, closed with a ring of defensive city walls. The regularity of the street layout is emphasized by buildings from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The collegiate church, the market square, the city walls with the Mill Gate and the Prison Tower stand out among the old-town buildings that make up the historic interior of the city. As one of the few towns, Strzelce Krajeńskie has almost the entire perimeter of the medieval city walls, dating from 1272-1290, preserved. The medieval city walls surround the area of the Old Town with an area of 24 ha, about 1640 m in length, sometimes reaching a maximum height of 8 meters. There were rectangular shell towers, the so-called hideouts, of which 36 have survived.

  • Another city in which the urban layout is well preserved is Drezdenko. The genesis of the city is closely related to the early medieval stronghold, probably founded in the 10th century. The Slavic stronghold was established by Mieszko I to defend the crossing of the Noteć River on the trade route from Poznań to Western Pomerania. Over time, the settlement turned into a medieval town, first mentioned in historical documents from the 13th-14th centuries as "civitas drysen". At the end of the thirteenth century, the city was incorporated into New Marchia. In 1317, the Brandenburg margrave sold them as a fief to the von der Ost family, which in turn sold them to the Order of the Knights of the Blessed Virgin Mary, or "Teutonic Knights". In the years 1603-1604 in Drezdenko a Renaissance frontier fortress was built on a pentagonal plan with protruding bastions. As a result of the Thirty Years' War, a large part of the city was destroyed. Over time, the fort lost its original meaning and was finally closed in 1763. From the foundation of the fortress, a legible system of bastions, curtains and moats as well as a fortress square with elements of the 17th and 18th-century garrison buildings remained. The city has retained a clear pre-location layout and a medieval layout. The fourteenth - century foundation layout creates an oval of the city, intersected by parallel streets, forming quarters with a rectangular market square in the center and a church square. The Slavic origin of the city, with its medieval spatial layout and historic architecture, creates the value of the Old Town with great historical and monumental values. Most of the historic buildings in Drezdenko were built in the 18th century and at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Entire frontages of densely built streets have survived to the present day. In the eastern part of the city, in the area of the former fortress, there is a small baroque tenement house. Originally, it served as a fortress gate called "Holm", there was a passage in the ground floor of the gate, and at the top there was a guard. There were weapons warehouses at the gate. In the mid-nineteenth century, the building was converted into apartments. During the construction of the fortress gate, a half-timbered building was erected nearby, intended for an armory. Today, in the 17th-century building, the Museum of the Drawa and Notecka Primeval Forests is located.

The palace and manor-park layouts are interesting

  • Palace, park and farm complex in Mierzęcin - one of the most magnificent complexes in this area. Around the middle of the 18th century, the property was owned by the von Waldow family. In 1861, a palace was built.
  • In the village of Ogardy, located 11 km north-east of Strzelce Krajeńskie, a palace complex with a park and a manor farm has survived to this day.
  • An interesting object is also the palace in Drezdenko. The late-Baroque palace, built in 1766, with a triangular courtyard, guardhouse and two outbuildings, is situated on the premises of the former bastions and curtains of the fortress.
  • Several interesting farm complexes in the communes of Strzelce Krajeńskie and Dobiegniew have also survived. The gothic granary in Chomętowo is the most valuable building that has remained to our times.

There are 5 nature reserves:

  • "Lubiatowskie wilderness"
  • "Czaplenice"
  • "Łabędziniec" on 5 islands on Lake Sołecko
  • "Czplisko"
  • "Łubówko Lake"

There are 4 hiking trails in the poviat marked with colors: green, blue, yellow and red.

Three water routes are proposed, including along the Noteć River and along the Drawa River.

In the district there is the Drawieński National Park, the heraldic animal of which is an otter, also a part of the Barlinek-Gorzowski Landscape Park.
