With rivers, valleys and especially: canyons, Praia Grande enchants with a singular beauty between the coast and the Santa Catarina mountains, having the privilege of having in its territory an important part of the Aparados da Serra Park.
Its population is 7,500 inhabitants of Italian and Portuguese origin and the city has been standing out as a tourist reference in the state. Praia Grande becomes the main reference in this region, as it is already known as the "City of Canyons".
In Praia Grande, on the border with Cambará do Sul, we have the Itaimbezinho canyon, the best known in the region, with steep walls up to 700m high, with a maximum width of 2km and a length of 5.8km. This canyon also has the beautiful waterfalls, Véu da Noiva (720m) and Andorinhas.
Still many other canyons can be visited from Praia Grande, such as the monumental Fortaleza, Malacara, Josafá, Faxinalzinho, Churriado, Coroados Indians, among others, many of which can be seen even during the journey that ascends the Serra do Faxinal, through SC -450, the road that leads to the Itaimbezinho canyon and many others.
In the interior of the municipality, animals such as the toucan, the blue jay, parrots, maned wolves, cotias, deer, howler monkeys, and wild cats can still be found.
The city also has the Mampituba River valleys as attractions, ideal for the practice of buoy cross, the Pedra Branca Valley, with wild animals and native vegetation, and the Rio do Boi valley, which crosses the Itaimbezinho canyon. The beauty of the city and the region, and especially the canyons, is such that they have already been used as scenarios for soap operas and mini-series such as “Explendor”, “Chocolate com Pepper”, “A Casa das Sete Mulheres”, in addition to its landscapes are frequently used in advertisements of the most diverse products and services.
In popular festivals, the highlight is the Bóia Cross, an annual festival held in early March, which, in addition to sporting competitions, usually features national bands such as None of Us, Armandinho, Chimarruts, etc.
