Lac d'Annecy cyclable promenade - Promenade cyclable du Lac d’Annecy

Annecy, the starting point of the route, seen from the mountains

The Annecy cyclable promenade leads from Annecy to Ugine. The first section runs along the western bank of Lake Annecy. The second part follows two rivers to Ugine, which run in opposite directions, but are only separated by a watershed of low height. This is unusual for the high Alps. In addition to the mountain and lake panorama, the highlight of the tour is the tunnel near Duingt. Both sections follow a former railway line.

background

The cycle route is a section of the national long-distance cycle route V62. In Annecy, the cycle path meets the lake and splits into two arms. Section A, which passes along the western bank of the lake, uses our route, section B, which occupies the opposite bank and is generally more hilly, meets the V62A again at the end of the lake. Both then continue to follow together as V62 via Ugine Albertville and Montmélian. From Ugine the route runs on country roads, the bike path ends in Ugine.

The second part first follows the inflow of the lake L'Eau Morte (French. Dead water) and after a small hill the river La chaise after Ugine. The route follows the former Annecy-Ugine railway line.

preparation

getting there

Public transportation

Annecy train station is a terminus and therefore some trains end here, including TGVs from Paris Gare de l'Austerlitz about Lyon. The Annecy - Ugine connection has not existed since the 1960s. Their old railway line forms the basis of our route.

By bicycle

Since the Annecy cyclable promenade represents a section of the national cycle route V62, it can also be used as a feeder from the Rhône Valley (starting point Chessenaz) at. The ViaRhôna, which connects Geneva with Lyon, also runs there.

In the street

Annecy can be reached via three exits (Seynod Sud, 15.1 - Annecy Center 16 - Annecy Nord, 17) of the French A41 (E712), which connects Geneva with Grenoble.

Route description with sights

Annecy - Saint-Jorioz: 9 km

Starting in the little Venice of the Alps, the route first follows the lakeside promenade before turning to the railway cycle path. This runs a bit off the shore, but always offers beautiful views of the large lake. The surrounding mountains, which often still have snow fields in summer, are beautiful motifs.

Saint-Jorioz - Faverges: 16 km

South of the lake

In this section come the first climbs, if you want to call them that with this low number of meters in altitude. In order to cross a mountain foothill (shortly after the start of the stage) that drops directly into the lake, the railway builders of the last millennium built a tunnel. This tunnel near Duingt is one of the highlights of the route. The actual promenade ends at Bou du Lac, from where it continues via Doussart through forests to Faverges.

Faverges - Ugine: 10.5 km

The end of the railway route in Ugine - or the beginning. At the top of the bridge is the active railway line to Albertville

From Faverges it goes through the small village of Marlens to the end point of the Ugine tour. A watershed between Faverges and Marlens is barely noticeably crossed. The rivers (L'Eau Morte and La Chaise) on the opposite side both flow into the Rhône, but 130 km (as the crow flies) apart. The Chaise drained over the Arly and the Isère into the Rhône, the Eau Morte over the Lac d'Annecy and the following rivers.

The border between the departments of Savoie and Haute-Savoie is crossed between Marlens and Ugine.

Other places to stay

security

The route is particularly popular with families for excursions in summer. Particular attention should be paid to small road users. But we don't have to tell you as a gifted cyclist.

trips

However, the V62 does not end at the end of the Promenade cyclable du Lac d'Annecy. This route continues via Albertville (8.5 km) along the Isère Montmélian.
