Puerto Princesa is the capital of the Philippine province Palawan, it is located in the middle of the island of the same name.

Puerto Princesa was founded in 1872. The name of the city refers to the Spanish princess Maria Eulalia. Puerto Princesa received city rights in 1970, and in 1994 the city is the seat of a university.

  • 1  Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park. Tel.: 63 927 436 7895. The national park is located about 80 km northeast of the city on the west bank of the island of Palawan and has a diverse flora with around 800 plant species. There are around 80 species of birds in its fauna, including the Beo. Macaques and tree squirrels also live here. There are also thousands of insects, including butterflies with a wingspan of up to 18 cm. The main attraction of the park, however, is the karst landscape with several caves, through which an underground river flows, which is navigable for about 4 km.
