Punta del Carnero is a suburb of the city of Algeciras in the Province of Cadiz.

Punta del Carnero was initially a lighthouse at the entrance to the Strait of Gibraltar, located on the Mediterranean coast between Algeciras and Tarifa. From this stretch of coast you have a great view of the opposite North African coast, which is why more and more tourists with holiday homes have settled here in the last ten years. A wild holiday home area has developed without any notable infrastructure. Because of its proximity to Africa, it can happen that the Moroccan Telecom connects to the mobile phone as a roaming partner. That could be expensive.

By plane
The nearest airport is Gibraltar, but there are no flights from Germany; Malaga and Jerez airports are both around a two-hour drive away.
By train
The nearest train station is Algeciras, from where you can travel to all parts of the country with the Spanish railway RENFE via Ronda and Bobadilla. Punta del Carnero itself has no rail connection.
In the street
Coming from Malaga on the A7 drive past Algeciras towards Tarifa. At the last roundabout in Algeciras, turn left on a narrow tar road to Playa de Getares beach. At the first roundabout on the road to Getares, turn right onto the narrow Avenida Punta del Carnero, which ends after a few kilometers at the district of the same name. Here you turn left into the small village, at the first opportunity left to the coast, until you reach a large gravel place where you can park. Driving on the internal tarred roads of Punta del Carnero is not recommended. The edges of the road are not paved, the roads themselves are built in such a hurry that every now and then parts of the road break away into the depths.

Even the journey by car from Getares to Punta del Carnero is a visual delight. Halfway there is a place where you can stop to the left to take photos of the Bay of Algeciras.
On the ridge that frames Punta del Carnero, you can undertake a beautiful, less strenuous circular hike.
A hiking trail leads along the coast towards Tarifa. It is not recommended as it is largely overgrown with prickly gorse. There are also no signs or places to stop for a break.
