Puyuhuapi is a settlement by the fjord in the Región de Aysén in Chile. It is right on the Carretera Austral and is the starting point for tours in the adjacent Queulat National Park.
background
The village was founded in 1935 and traces of the many German settlers can still be seen today. The local school is called e.g. "Hamburger Schule" and the "Hopperdietzel" beer is the most famous specialty of the place.

By plane
The small airport is located south of the settlement on a peninsula by the fjord. There are connections to the nearest cities with small aircraft.
By bus
All buses between Chaitén and Coyhaique, Puerto Aysén and Puerto Cisnes also cross the place. Current information is available at the local tourist information office.
In the street
The place is on a gravel section of the Carretera Australwhich is currently being expanded. The nearest town is Chaitén 200km north with an important ferry port (including connections to Puerto Montt, Quellón on Chiloe, Melinka and Puerto Aysén)

The small town is located in a picturesque fjord landscape. Sights and activities can be found in the neighboring Queulat National Park.
At the foot of the glacier, there are impressive hiking opportunities in the dense rainforest.

A local specialty is the popular beer from the microbrewer "Hopperdietzel", which can be bought in various varieties in local shops.

- Casa Ludwig. Well-run, simple bed and breakfast in an unmistakable, listed settler's house on the southern exit from the village. The hostess Luisa Ludwig is a daughter of German immigrants born in Puyuhuapi. She studied in Germany and spent a few years there, now living in her home town again.
- Hosteria Alemana, Avenida Otto Uebel. Well run simple bed and breakfast; Located in the middle of the village on the main road. German is spoken here too.
- Puyuhuapi Lodge & Spa, known as Termas de Puyuhuapi, is considered one of the best thermal hotels in the country. The lodge can only be reached via a jetty 16 km south of the village and is characterized above all by its unique location.

There is only a small doctor's station on site. A real hospital can be found in Puerto Cisnes, Coyhaique or Puerto Montt.
