Peronne is a town in the heart of the Somme valley, located in the Vermandois.
Understand
The city center, historic heart, is located on a hill surrounded by ponds formed by the Somme river which crosses the city (the CAM pond in particular, public garden of the city). The Canal du Nord crosses Péronne before following the course of the Somme river. Péronne notably houses the Historial de la Grande Guerre, an exceptional Museum of France on the Great War. During this Great War, the city was at the heart of the battles of the Somme, and was heavily destroyed.
To go
By car
By highways A1 (Paris - Lille) or A29 (Saint-Quentin - Honfleur). D1017 and D199.
By train
Péronne is no longer served by the train (old line from Saint-Just-en-Chaussée to Douai). However, the city is very close to the Haute-Picardie TGV station, the only TGV station in Picardy, at 20 min car.
On a boat
Péronne has a marina on the Canal du Nord.
Circulation
The two main axes of the city, the D1017 (former National 17) and the D199 are rarely crowded and intersect in the city center. The two large city squares, Place André Audinot (Place du Château) and Place Louis Daudré (Place de l'Hotel de Ville) are linked by a pedestrian street.

- Castle and Historial of the Great War – The castle and its four towers built under King Philippe-Auguste have been Historical Monuments since 1924. The castle now houses the Historial de la Grande Guerre in a modern building, the work of the architect Henri Ciriani. Many objects, documents, works by artists, audio guides in 4 languages: French, English, German and Dutch are included in the entry price, as well as activities such as "Touch a bit to see", "the family museum, child's play! " or even "Récré-Musée" allow everyone, whatever the age or the level of knowledge on the history of the First World War, to discover this period, the matrix of the XXe century.
- CAM Park : Located behind the Castle, it is a large green space in the city, built around a pond. The term 'CAM' would designate a former 'Military Supply Center' present at the same location during the Great War.
