history

Qatar Airways Airbus at Doha Airport

The company was founded in 1993 and began flight operations the following year, initially with leased aircraft. It is now one of the largest airlines in the Middle East. In 2010 the airline was replaced by Skytrax awarded 5 stars as one of the best airlines.

fleet

More than 80 aircraft are currently in use, the majority of which are Airbus A320-200, A330-200, A330-300 and Boeing 777-300 aircraft. The A330 are now noticeably the oldest aircraft in the fleet, while the Boeing 787 is currently the most modern aircraft with a very high level of comfort. The ten Airbus A380s are to be withdrawn after 10 years of use, i.e. between 2024 and 2028. In addition to passenger planes, some cargo planes are also in use. The fact that over 100 aircraft have been ordered indicates the company's ambitious expansion policy, over 50% of which is state-owned.

Alliances

Qatar Airways is part of oneworld, but still exists Code sharing Relations with the Star Alliance. For example, flight QR 028 from Frankfurt to Doha is identical to flight LH 620.

Route network and hubs

Doha Airport is the hub of Qatar Airways. From there destinations all over the world are flown to, a detailed list of all flight destinations can be found in the English Wikipedia. The strongly expanded company adapts its route network to its growth.

Classes of carriage

Qatar usually has a classic three-class system, although first class is often not offered on short or less frequented routes.

Free food and personal in-flight entertainment are offered in all classes and on all routes.

The business class in the A330 planes is getting on in years. B. no completely flat seats. The service is very good though.

Lounges

Qatar has only a few of its own lounges. The biggest is that Oryx Lounge at the Doha airport. By becoming a member of OneWorld Status customers can use the respective lounges of other members (British Airways, American Airlines etc.).

Frequent flyer program

The Privilege Club program awaits with the special status Burgundy on. This is acquired by the first flight operated by Qatar after registration and remains in place indefinitely. Although it offers fewer advantages than the usual silver or gold statuses (which of course also exist with Qatar Airways), even Burgundy members are already on standby waiting lists and also upgrades compared to non-members and members without any status (i.e. on their first flight) preferred.
