Rappenseehütte - Rappenseehütte

The Rappenseehütte is a much-visited accommodation facility of the German Alpine Club, which is located at 2091 m in the Allgäu High Alps.

The lodging house is open from mid-June to mid-October.

The hut, built in 1885, belongs to the Allgäu-Kempten section of the German Alpine Club. After various extensions, the Rappenseehütte is the largest hut of the German Alpine Club.

getting there

By bus and train

With the train up Oberstdorf. From Oberstdorf train station, a bus service runs every half hour in the summer half-hour to the Stillachtal bis Birgsau (journey time 35 minutes).

In the street

From Oberstdorf follow the signs to the Fellhornbahn into the Stillachtal. From the Fellhornbahn, the valley road is closed to vehicles. There is a large, paid car park here. Parking fee per day: € 2.50 (as of 03-2007).

Ascents

Heilbronner Höhenweg

The well-traveled ridge trail leads over the highest peaks of the Allgäu Alps. Caution: In some cases, you must have a head for heights and be sure-footed. The most difficult parts of the path are secured with wire ropes and ladders. The route should only be tackled in safe weather conditions.

Walking times:

Rappenseehütte - Waltenberger Haus: approx. 4 hours
Rappenseehütte - Kemptner Hütte: approx. 7 hours (on the route there are two descents to the Waltenberger Haus, via which you can leave the path in bad weather).

  • to Mindelheimer Hut over the Schrofenpass - Walking time approx. 5 - 6 hours; Hilly high path with a total of approx. 700 m (including 500 m as the final ascent from the end of the Stillach valley). At two points on the path, you need a head for heights and surefootedness: on the Mutzentobel and around the Schrofenpass. Both places are secured with wire ropes. The "Schrofenpass-Nordweg" is taken on the descent and is very well secured (sometimes even with metal walkways with terrain).

  • Accommodation: 189 storage spaces and 115 beds (room dormitory). Rooms and storage may only be entered with slippers. The use of a hut sleeping bag is compulsory both in the camp and in the beds. This can also be purchased at the hut. Hut rest is from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • Accommodation prices: Storage: 16 € (DAV members 8 €) Bed: 24 € (DAV members 12 €)
