The city was founded in 1865 and became the provincial capital of Chubut in 1957. It was originally called Trerawson, a combination of the Welsh word for "place" (Tre) and the name of the then Interior Minister of Argentina Guillermo Rawsonwho promoted the settlement of immigrants from Wales.
In the 1970s, numerous government buildings were rebuilt in a modern style, which gives the city the nicknameBrasilia Argentina "brought in. In terms of the architectural quality, this is not necessarily justified, however, most of them are simple functional buildings.

By boat
mobility

Tourist Attractions
- The Fishing port is considered the most interesting district in the city. Although the district is not too old, the many boats give it a colorful flair that is otherwise missing in the Patagonian cities.
activities
Most travelers will likely come to Rawson for a beach vacation.
The most popular beach in town is 1 Playa Unión, just north of the fishing port. It offers clean, relatively warm water, a good infrastructure with several hotels and campsites as well as a night life that corresponds to that of smaller Argentine seaside resorts.
More secluded beaches connect further south. At 2 Playa Magagna a small tourist resort is currently being built. Further south there is an endless chain of almost deserted beaches.
