Richfield Springs - Richfield Springs

no tourist info on Wikidata: Add tourist information

Richfield Springs is a small place in the Otsego County in the US state new York. The place is only interesting for tourism because of its proximity to Cooperstown. It offers relatively cheap accommodation and is closer to the Alice Busch Opera House than the actual Cooperstown.

The directly neighboring Canadaraga Lake is almost completely surrounded by private property and is therefore insignificant for most visitors. The only public access is the boat entry point on the west bank.

background

getting there

Please refer Cooperstown. The journey time to the center of Cooperstown is 24 minutes by car.

Tourist Attractions

activities

shop

  • Price chopper, 1 W Main St. West of the town center is the town's only supermarket. The Tops supermarket in the south of Cooperstown is somewhat more likely to meet European standards.

kitchen

Opera-goers can also get very attractive small meals at the sales booth at the theater before the performances.

Cheap

  • Foo Chow Restaurant, 137 W Main St. Chinese restaurant in the middle of Richfield Springs. Extensive menu, but the quality of the food is poor. The interior is so off-putting that it's best to plan take-out in advance. A few meters to the west is a public park with picnic tables.
  • New York Pizzeria, 126 W Main St. Fast pizzeria in the town center. The place is the only halfway good dinner address in Richfield Springs, so the waiting times can be considerable at peak times.

medium

  • Tally-Ho restaurant, 156 Main St. Restaurant in the town center with American grill cuisine and a few Italian options. Breakfast too.

Upscale

  • The Lake House Restaurant, 2521 County Hwy 22. The most ambitious restaurant in Richfield Springs (which is not an exaggeration given the tiny size of the place). Very rustic interior and location right on the lake. Frequently changing dishes. Seafood, steak, ribs. Evening main courses $ 17-27; easier at lunchtime, but much cheaper.

Hotels and motels

Cheap

  • Fountain View Motel, 3607 U.S. Route 20, Richfield Springs. Tel.: 1.315.858.1360 (Reservations only by phone). Modest motel, the rooms of which are creepy designed with lots of dark wood and whose greatest asset is its convenient location for opera goers.Price: $ 72–99 without breakfast in summer.

The Lake House Hotel with its branches is a lovingly run family business with limited resources, which is definitely recommended, but has a few small problems: among other things, the electronic booking system only works here and there. If you want to make sure that your booking actually works, it is best to contact the management directly, i.e. by email.

  • Lake House: The Lodge, 2521 County Highway 22 (3 minutes south of the traffic lights, Lake St & Main St). Privately run hotel, housed in the building erected in 1843, which also houses the Lake House Restaurant. 14 rustically furnished rooms that cost between $ 125 and $ 195 in summer, depending on the furnishings.
  • Lake House: The Baseball Hotel, 10 Gould Ave (in the village of Richfield Springs). Second branch of the Lake House with 25 rooms on 2 floors in an old house with a romantic surrounding terrace. The rooms are small and furnished with pieces of furniture, but are family-friendly and functional, and offer an attractive contrast to the unimaginative monotony of the chains. Lavish American breakfast (baseball players - youngsters too - need high-calorie food), which is included in the price, but unfortunately only served until 9 a.m. People with European needs might want to bring their own slice of bread as a supplement. WiFi only in the lobby. The rooms cost $ 125–189 in the summer, depending on the furnishings; in the other seasons of the year the business is presumably dormant. The journey time to the opera house is only 12 minutes.
  • Lake House: The Town Houses, 10 Gould Ave. The three Town Houses - Sylvan Townhouse, Center Townhouse and Church Townhouse - are a younger extension of the baseball hotel, whose breakfast room can also be used. The townhouses offer a total of 14 rooms, each of the three houses has a communal kitchen. The rooms are small and have whatever furniture was just about to be found, but pleasant, and the latest that the Lake House can offer. They cost $ 130–195, depending on the equipment. Check-in at the front desk of the Baseball Hotel.

camping

  • Cooperstown KOA, 565 Ostrander Road, Richfield Springs. Campsite 10 minutes northwest of the Alice Busch Opera Theater. Lush shaded pitches for tents, well-maintained, clean washrooms and showers. For children there are, among other things, rental pedal vehicles, a swimming pool, a bouncy castle, a basketball hoop, a volleyball net and a game arcade with air hockey, pool billiards, table football and some other equipment. Very friendly staff, and a good and very serious alternative to the hotels that are often fully booked in this region. Amish women come daily with the horse buggy and sell their fresh cakes at the campsite. If you don't have a tent with you, you can rent a hut on the site, but you have to book very early. The huts are rustic, but clean and pleasant, they offer sleeping space for 4 (bare mattresses without anything; you have to bring your own sheets, pillows, blankets), electricity and heating, but no private bathroom.
