Richmond is a historical place in the south of the Australian state Tasmania.
background
The place Richmond developed in the early 19th century around a convict settlement and was by its bridge over the Coal River on the link between Hobart and Port Arthur. From this time there are still numerous sandstone buildings that are now listed. With the construction of the new connection road to the Tasman Peninsula, which bypassed Richmond, the place lost its importance, but it largely retained its historical appearance.
