Religious heritage

Burned down and damaged over the centuries, Rodez Cathedral is a remarkable compendium of the architectural styles of the XIIIe to XVIIe century: Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque interior decoration elements. It has imposing dimensions; the central nave, rather narrow, develops on 102 m long and has a particularly graceful elevation (30 meters). the building has a superb bell tower, a veritable lacework of pink sandstone stone, spotted from afar, dominating the top of the city of its 87 meters away. At night, it is illuminated from within.
  • Saint-Martin Chapel  – It was located mid-slope overlooking Layoule. Before 1789, it served as a Ruthenian parish, then before World War II, as a garbage dump and playgrounds for children. In ruins since the war, it was completely demolished in 1966.

The exterior is Baroque in style but the interior has retained the purity of the Romanesque. The dome was decorated with XVIIIe century by Salinier. Sixth century tapestries adorn the choir and represent the miracles of Saint Amans. We keep a pietà du XVe century, a statue of the Trinity of XVIe century and a reliquary box in Limoges enamel.
  • The Sacred Heart  – whose work lasted 30 years (from the year 1890 to 1920). Its construction was inspired by the Sainte-Foy de Conques abbey with notable influences from the great Périgord churches.

  • Bishopric (palace), its towers and its ramparts.
